Round 1: Design Concept Submission & Review
In Round 1, contestants submit a cover design concept. A design concept:
- Is more than a sketch - it is a mock-up built in Illustrator, InDesign, or Photoshop and submitted as a PDF.
- Need not be polished, finessed, nor press-ready, but can be easily evolved into a press-ready file. See examples of past covers.
- Should clearly convey the look and feel of the intended design yet adhere to the design guidelines and technical specs as described in the Contest Resources.
- May contain comp'd photos and design elements. However, the rights to use press-ready, hi-res photos and design elements must be obtainable. Should your design be chosen, ReDirect Guide will make arrangements to acquire (purchase) those rights.
Submission deadline: 12-31-09
Evaluation Criteria: A judging committee consisting of ReDirect Guide employees will evaluate each submission on factors including, but not limited to overall aesthetics and adherence to the design guidelines and technical specifications.
Next Step: Register to access the Contest Resources which contains design guidelines, technical specs, submission instructions, and the contest Q&A.
Entrants may submit multiple entries.
Round 2: Finalists Review
In the Finalists Review, up to 5 designs will be selected for final review. Finalists will be asked to:
- Submit their native design files (InDesign, Illustrator, and/or Photoshop) to assess how easy it will be to modify the design and take the file to press,
- Identify the source of any third party graphic elements (photos, graphics, fonts, etc.) and costs to obtain the rights to publish,
- Answer a few questions pertaining to their commitment towards living a green, sustainable lifestyle,
- State the rates/fee structure to transform their submission to final, press-ready design, should they be chosen as the winner.
Evaluation Criteria: A judging committee consisting of ReDirect Guide employees will evaluate each submission on factors including, but not limited to overall aesthetics, adherence to the design guidelines and technical specifications, the effort and costs needed to adopt the design into a final, press-ready design, and the contestant's commitment towards living a sustainable lifestyle.
Winner Obligations: Winner(s) will be offered a paid opportunity to work with ReDirect Guide designers in modifying their design to a press-ready final copy. If the winner is not able to satisfy this obligation, he/she must either a) forfeit the prize and contest or b) provide ReDirect with all the necessary support files and authorize ReDirect, Inc. to make the necessary changes to finalize the design for press.
