Rolfing is a type of bodywork developed by Ida Rolf that incorporates the manipulation and stretching of the body’s “fascial” tissues to reestablish proper structural alignment, promoting mental, emotional and physical balance. It is believe that when the body is correctly aligned, the bone structure is working with gravity instead of against it, allowing muscles to be in place with ease rather than fighting to remain upright. Some research has show Rolfing to create a more efficient use of the muscles, allows the body to conserve energy, and creates more economical and refined patterns of movement. These studies also show that Rolfing significantly reduces chronic stress and changes in the body structure, and can help create ease and freedom of physical movement as well as balance in the mental and emotional realm.
