Official Rules

  1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR TO WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR ODDS OF WINNING. ALL FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL AND MUNICIPAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS APPLY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
  2. CONTEST RULES MAY BE CHANGED AND POSTED AT WWW.REDIRECTGUIDE.COM/COVERCONTEST FROM TIME TO TIME.  IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ENTRANT TO REGULARLY CHECK CURRENT CONTEST RULES. The rules posted at www.redirectguide.com/covercontest supersede all other previously published rules.
  3. Eligibility Restrictions.  To participate in the ReDirect Guide Cover Design Contest (the "Contest"), entrants must be at least 18 years old, a resident of the United States, and enrolled as a student at a higher education institution at the time of entry.  Employees and contractors of ReDirect, Inc., ReDirect Guide, Inc., or advertisers in the 2009 and 2010 Portland AND Salt Lake City AND Colorado editions of the ReDirect Guide and members of their immediate families and households are not eligible to enter or win.
  4. Contest Period.  Contest period begins on October 15, 2009 at 12:01 AM Pacific Time (PT) and ends on December 31, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
  5. How To Enter.  Entrants must register their name, email address, phone number, school and zip code at www.ReDirectGuide.com/CoverContest. Entrants may then submit Cover Design entries for consideration. Entries must be submitted as a PDF file (less than 1 Mbytes in size) and emailed as an attachment to covercontest@redirectguide.com. All submissions become the property of the roperty of ReDirect, Inc. and will not be acknowledged or returned. Entrants may submit multiple entries for consideration.
  6. ReDirect, Inc. shall not responsible for (i) lost, stolen, mangled, misdelivered, postage due, illegible, incomplete or late entries; (ii) Internet or web server outages and other technical problems that may prevent individuals from submitting an entry.
  7. Copyright Transfer and Assignment. By submitting an entry to the contest, the Entrants:
  8. Use of 3rd Party Copyrights. Entrants may use design elements (pictures, images, graphics, fonts, etc.) in which the copyrights to those elements are held by 3rd parties. If the Entrant is selected as a finalist, he/she must disclose ALL design elements with copyrights that are held by 3rd parties, contact information, method to acquire those rights for use, and the cost to acquire those rights. Failure to disclose all 3rd party copyright holders may result in disqualification or forfeiture. ReDirect, Inc. shall purchase or license the all the 3rd party rights associated with design elements used in the winning design. Winner assumes any and all liability associated with and holds ReDirect, Inc. and ReDirect Guide, Inc. harmless if the use of any 3rd Party design element not disclosed.
  9. Selection of Finalists.  A panel of judges will review all the submitted designs and select up to 5 finalists on or around January 8, 2010. The criteria for judging will include, but is not limited to: adherence to the design guidelines, overall aesthetics, and personal preference. Finalists will be asked to submit the native Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and/or Photoshop file(s) for evaluation, answer several questions pertaining to sustainability, and state the fees and/or rates to work on transforming their submission to a press-ready, final copy.
  10. Selection of Winner(s). A panel of judges will review the native files and select a winner(s) on or arond February 1, 2010. The criteria for judging will include, but is not limited to: adherence to the design guidelines, overall aesthetics, personal preferences, ease and fees/wages to adopt the native file(s) to a final, press-ready design, and the costs, if any, to purchase the rights of images or other graphical elements used in the design. Multiple winners may also be selected.
  11. Selection of No Winner. No winner may be chosen if the panel of judges feel that no design is appropriate for the cover of the 2010 ReDirect Guide.
  12. Prize.  If a winner is selected, he/she will: 1) win a $300 Gift Certificate to member business in the 2010 or 2009 ReDirect Guide. The winner will be able to suggest 3 businesses in the 2009 or 2010 ReDirect Guide that he/she will receive the Gift Certificate from and ReDirect, Inc., at its choosing, will select one of those three businesses. 2) have his/her design published and acknowleged on the Cover(s) of the 2010 ReDirect Guide and other related promotional materials, and 3) be hired to work with ReDirect Guide designers to transform their submission to a press-ready, final copy. If multiple winners are selected, the $300 Gift Certificate prize will be split evenly among the multiple winners and all winners will receive credit and acknowledgement for their winning designs. If no winner is selected, no prize will be awarded. The prize will be awarded on or about April 22, 2010.
  13. Winner Obligations. The winner will be offered a paid opportunity to adopt their submitted design by March 1, 2010 to a final, press-ready design. Compensation will be paid for the winner's services at a mutually agreed upon, to be determined rate. If the winner does not wish to or cannot satisfy these obligations, he/she can either a) forfeit the prize and another winner or no winner will be selected or b) provide the necessary support files and authorize ReDirect, Inc. to make the necessary changes to finalize the design for press. Winners are also obligated to report their winnings and earnings to their applicable tax authorities.
  14. Notification.  Finalists and Winners will be notified by e-mail and phone.  Return of prize notification as undeliverable or failure to acknowledge notification within 5 business days may result in disqualification and an alternate winner or finalist may be selected.  Winner may be required to complete an affidavit of eligibility, and a liability and publicity release (except where prohibited by law). Failure by the winner to return the affidavit or release within ten (10) days, or to comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules, may result in a winner's disqualification, the forfeiture of his or her interest in the prize, and the award of the prize to an alternate winner.  All entrants agree to receive, via e-mail, messages pertaining to this contest.
  15. Publicity.  If you are selected as a contest winner, you agree to allow ReDirect, Inc. and ReDirect Guide, Inc. to publicize your name and picture. Apart from the prize associated with being selected as a winner, ReDirect, Inc and ReDirect Guide, Inc. shall not be obligated to compensate you in any way for such publicity.
  16. By entering the Contest, entrants release ReDirect, Inc. and ReDirect Guide Inc., its respective directors, officers, employees, representatives, partners and agents, and advertisers in the ReDirect Guide from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the Contest or with the acceptance, possession or use of any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light).
  17. By their participation, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules as solely determined by ReDirect, Inc., ReDirect Guide, Inc., and its management. In the event the contest is compromised by tampering or other causes beyond the reasonable control of ReDirect, Inc. and ReDirect Guide, Inc. which corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness or proper operation of the contest. ReDirect, Inc. and ReDirect Guide Inc. reserve the right in its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the contest. Should the contest be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, ReDirect, Inc. and ReDirect Guide, Inc. reserve the right to award prizes based on the entries received before the termination date.  ReDirect, Inc. and ReDirect Guide, Inc. reserve the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entrant who fails to comply with these Official Rules, who attempts to enter the Contest in any manner or through any means other than as described in these Official Rules, or who attempts to disrupt the Contest or to circumvent any of these Official Rules.
  18. Limitations of Liability.  By entering the Contest, entrant agrees that (1) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or in connection with the Contest, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved individually without resort to any form of class action, and entrant waives his or her right to a jury trial for such disputes, claims, and causes of action; (2) any claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the Contest, but in no event attorneys' fees; and (3) under no circumstances will any entrant be permitted to obtain any award for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental or consequential damages and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased and any other damages, other than damages for actual out-of-pocket expenses.
  19. The contest is sponsored by ReDirect, Inc. and ReDirect Guide, Inc. whose decisions regarding the selection of winner and all other aspects of the Contest shall be final and binding in all respects. ReDirect, Inc. and ReDirect Guide, Inc. will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in these Official Rules or in other materials relating to the Contest.
